2010 May - BHBIA Report
Last week my colleague Matt and I attended the annual British Healthcare Business Intelligence Association (BHBIA) Conference, at the Grove Hotel in Hertfordshire.
The Conference this year was themed around ‘Gold’ to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the association, and those presenting papers and workshops also used the Gold theme.
To kick the conference off Tim Brabants MBE delivered a fantastic keynote speech. Tim Brabants is currently the Olympic, World, and European champion in the K1 1000m canoeing event. Tim is also a physician, and spends his time between training as a locum in several London hospitals. What was clear from his speech was how hard Tim has worked over the years to ensure that his goals of becoming a doctor as well as achieving success at his sport were realised. It was also a great insight into the life of a gold-winning Olympic medallist.
Papers delivered included:
- ‘Orwell, All Well, or All Over? Long term prospects for healthcare business intelligence’ examining whether the future of UK healthcare would include business intelligence, and reporting on the predictions for the NHS of 100 physicians and influences.
- ‘Corporate Reputation: Walking the New Fields of Gold’ considered the benefits of developing a strong corporate reputation, with examples from Sanofi Aventis, asking how important corporate reputation is to the long term success of a company.
- Su Sandhu and Jane Scorer also looked to the future, and asked the audience whether business intelligence will be regarded as an investment or a luxury as the UK pharmaceutical industry reinvents itself. The presentation had some fab sound and video effects and really posed questions over what role as individuals we’d play in shaping the paradigm shift in marketing strategy; whether we’d be innovators, risk takers, supporters, followers or leaders.
-
‘Understanding Adherence and how to overcome the problem’ was delivered by Hall &Partners and Novartis, and discussed new insights in non-adherence to challenge current thinking and provide guidance on adherence strategies.
In addition, a number of workshops were delivered, on ‘Who do doctors trust and why?’; ‘Data mining’, ensuring golden opportunities aren’t lost in the analysis process, and the Delphi technique.
