Research Manager, Oxfordshire, £35,000 - £45,000 (Flexible working options)

The Company

Our client has provided strategic business evaluations and market research to the pharmaceutical industry for 18 years. Based in Oxfordshire, this agency works closely with US and European Mid-Cap, Biotech, Specialty Pharma and Venture Capital companies to deliver meaningful and insightful outcomes that add value through a systematic approach to project analysis. They provide business solutions covering a wide range of projects types.

Over time the business has grown to focus on thought leader and payer research, and forecast support studies covering therapeutics, diagnostics and devices. By focusing they can leverage their strong therapeutic experience in over 40 different disease areas.

The Role

As a result of further growth our client is looking to recruit a Research Manager to support the market research process from the initial briefing/proposal to analysis and presentation. Projects are predominantly ad-hoc global studies, many of which are in the early-pre-commercialisation stage in the drug life cycle. You will take responsibility for day to day project management, liaising with suppliers and clients whilst further developing your pharmaceutical knowledge.

Responsibilities include:

  • To be actively involved in the running of the market research projects, from beginning to end, to oversee the day to day management of the research executives and provide support where necessary, to ensure projects run smoothly and to time and to produce quality outputs

  • Writing proposals and devising appropriate methodology, samples and costings for all new projects involving market research

  • Sourcing and building relationships with fieldwork providers

  • Managing and briefing fieldwork agencies and managing the fieldwork process to ensure timely delivery of quality interviews

  • Devising guides / questionnaires based on the project objectives and proposed methodology in conjunction with outside experts as required

  • Analysing results from the interviews and writing slides for final presentation providing insightful recommendations to clients

  • Attending, and, where appropriate delivering final presentations to clients

  • Proactively managing project budgets and costs

  • Managing and supporting junior members of the market research teamo Insisting in the day to day management of projects where necessary

  • Reviewing and providing feedback on outputs produced

  • Supporting Project Directors in providing market research support where necessary

  • Providing support to the Managing Director to win market research business



The ideal candidate will have the following: 

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent

  • Ideally you will have a scientific educational background: physiology, biochemistry, neurosciences, molecular biology, biomedical sciences & pharmacology

  • Experience of market research and skilled in specialised qualitative and quantitative techniques. Qualitative experience is a pre-requisite for this role.

  • Around 3 years or more experience working in a pharmaceutical market research agency or equivalent.

  • A good understanding of the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries in the EU/US/Japan

  • Good interpersonal skills, especially writing, presenting and listening skills

  • Excellent project management and customer service skills

  • Multiple therapeutic experience is desirable
