The Role

Head of Business Development | Global Pharma Co | Competitive & benefits package


The Company

We are recruiting for a Global Pharma Company that has a varied product portfolio across several different therapy areas. They have a fantastic opportunity to join their successful Nutrition division as Head of Business Development.In this role you will lead the development and implementation of the contract strategy with particular focus on developing a profitable and effective relationship with all relevant NHS procuring authorities.


The Role

  • In conjunction with the Director Contracts & Business Development develop a UK contracting strategy supported by objectives and tactics.
  • Implement the national contract strategy, ensuring the development of detailed targeting plans capturing the opportunity presented by each and every contract and implementing a planning process to enhance overall success rate whilst ensuring business and financial goals are achieved.
  • Work with the Director Contracts & Business Development in developing and implementing an engagement strategy with all significant NHS procurement authorities undertaking enteral feed contracts throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
  • Responsible for creation, implementation and progress tracking of win plans for all existing and target competitor contracts.
  • To work closely with the Contracts Administration team, Director Contracts and the Contract Managers to support the timely response to tender requests with particular focus on developing pre-tender insights and the production of compelling supporting documentation.
  • To work closely with the Marketing Department to ensure that all communication to the procurement target audience is effective and appropriate, in line with business expectations and objectives.
  • Coordinate the preparation and analysis of pre-tender P&Ls and recommend contract pricing strategies to the General Manager with support from significant stakeholders including the Director Contracts and Business Development, Director Marketing and Head of Finance.



  • Experienced key account / contract management, ideally within the nutrition market experience
  • Experience working in a contracting environment governed by EU procurement regulation.
  • An effective communicator with a demonstrable track record of influencing internal and external customers including experience of presenting and achieving significant business case approvals.
  • Experience in building effective working relationships with a broad range of cross-functional stakeholders.
  • An effective networker, with experience in influencing cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to plan, organise and manage complex projects and tasks, whilst dealing with conflicting priorities, efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to assimilate complex information to identify trends, obstacles and commercial opportunities that will benefit the business.
  • A desire to be successful, to acquire new skills, and to continually learn and develop.
